These two communities belong to two neighborhoods within the city of Managua. Community 6 started with the relocation of people that resulted from the mass migration that initiated after the 1972 earthquake and some other domestic migrations from various Nicaraguan departments. In this community, the government developed housing projects, attracting low and medium income employees and professionals, such as doctors, lawyers, and administrative workers.
Community 7 is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Managua. It is perceived as a historic neighborhood of Managua. There are small industries and governmental offices within its surroundings. Nearby, one of the most important public hospitals of Managua (and even Nicaragua) is located, attracting very specific commerce to the area such as pharmaceuticals, clinical laboratories, and small restaurants.
Due to the fact that it is a very historic neighborhood, this community?s population is very homogenous. This population is composed of a very important indigenous population who is already in its adult years and of medium income.
Since both communities are nested within Managua, both have access to healthcare and education services (including the local university) located in Managua. Furthermore, the economic activities take place in Managua and not in the communities themselves.
