Surveyed Communities

Community 1 - 35 households in Puerto Rico and 10 in the United States

Community 2 - 200 households in Puerto Rico and 20 in the United States

Community 3 - 150 households in Puerto Rico and 15 in the United States

Community 4 & 5 - 200 households in Puerto Rico and 16 in the United States

Communities 4 and 5, small towns located in neighboring municipios, are nonetheless part of the same urban continuum that roughly doubles their combined size. They are located less than a one-hour drive away from San Juan. From a demographic point of view they can be considered a single community, in which the LAMP carried out a survey of 200 households on the island and 16 on the mainland United States. However, for the purposes of presenting this database, households belonging to one or the other were distinguished, hence producing a 92-household survey for Community 4 on the island (9 on the mainland) and a 108-household survey for Community 5 on the island (7 on the mainland.)

Community 4 and Community 5 are urban middle-lower class towns, located relatively close to two manufacturing parks and the Baccardi rum distillery, which dominate the regional economy. Thus, communities 4 and 5 present more of a manufacturing profile than the other surveyed communities..
