This community is located in the San Jose province at about 45 km southeast of the capital. It is part of a number of communities known as ?Los Santos? (The Saints), which have a very important coffee tradition in Costa Rica. Coffee production is highly valued due to its scent and flavor, and it is considered gourmet coffee. Today, there is important organic production of coffee, resulting in a better income for the coffee growers. In this area alone, there are about 20 brands of coffee which are exclusively for exportation.
The community serves like an axis for the development of the area. There are a good number of public institutions and vast economic activities to supply the population needs. There is an efficient line of transportation, facilitating any links with San Jose and the southern region, especially with San Isidro del General (city that initiated with local migration of Los Santos at the beginning of the 20th century).
This community is known by its high levels of international migration to the United States.
