Community 1 is located in the department of Quetzaltenango in the municipio of Salcaja. The community is about 2330 meters above sea level, and its area is about 12 sq. kilometers. Quetzaltenango City is the closest city to this community, while Guatemala city is located about 192 kilometers.

The municipio's main agricultural crops are corn, wheat, and beans. Its main manufacturing industry is the textile industry, specially those that require dyed thread. In addition to the Spanish language, the Quiche language is also spoken in the region.

This community is home to the ruins of the first church, where brother Francisco Vazquez saw an image of the Virgin "La Conquistadora" at the end of the XVII century. It is also home to the first church founded in Central America.

The river Samala is one of the natural attractions to the region. In addition, this community has one of the best basketball courts in the region.
